Chiswick House and Gardens
Chiswick House is among the most glorious examples of 18th-century British architecture and makes a fascinating day out in West London. The 3ird Earl of Burlington, who designed this noble Roman-style Palladian villa, drew inspiration from his Grand Tours of Italy.
The Gardens - birthplace of the English Landscape Movement - are open following a major restoration which has revealed the original vistas and repaired the statues and garden buildings.
There's also a fantastic café in a RIBA award-winning building that looks out on the gardens and house.
Kenwood
On the edge of Hampstead Heath and surrounded by tranquil landscaped gardens, Kenwood is one of London's hidden gems. The breathtaking interiors and stunning world-class art collection, which includes Rembrandt's 'Self-Portrait with Two Circles', are free for everyone to enjoy. With children's activities, a café to relax in and acres of grounds to stretch your legs, there are treats in store for every visitor.
Marble Hill
Inside the house, you can discover a taste of Georgian life with freshly conserved interiors and new displays that tell the story of Henrietta Howard, Marble Hill’s remarkable owner. Outside, explore over sixty acres of riverside parkland, with restored gardens, reinvigorated woods and even a nine pin bowling alley.
Kids will love following the family trail with Fop the dog, trying on hats in Henrietta’s dressing room and playing Georgian games in the garden. There’s a fun new playground too, along with plenty of space for fresh-air adventures.
